  1. Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu

Our staff will be at Tribhuvan Internation Airport to await your flight to land. Upon meeting you, we will have a transfer ready to a hotel in the Thamel area of Kathmandu where we will spend the evening. We will go over some safety briefing and ensure that we are ready for the trip ahead. If there is any equipment that you need to buy for the trip, this can be bought in Thamel today.

  2. Day 2 Start Rafting in Dolaghat

We will take a bus three hours to Dolaghat. Upon arrival we will have lunch and do a brief safety briefing whilst getting the gear ready to take on the river. The first day of rafting is relatively simple with a few Grade 2 rapids to contend with. There is a local Hindu temple on route which we will stop at to visit before continuing to the campsite for the night at Butterfly Beach.

This first day lets us forget about the urban areas of the country as we retreat into peaceful village settings. Upon arrival at camp, we will have dinner and enjoy the surroundings. The white sandy beach and stars in the night sky are truly impressive. There is time to relax in the afternoon, if you wish to fish, play football, get spiritual with yoga or anything else you wish!

  3. Day 3 The Rafting Goes On!

This day is a bit more exciting on the rapids front. There is a Grade 3 and a Grade -4 to contend with as well as smaller pockets of water to keep things exciting and moving at a fast pace. Another river, the Tamba Kosi joins the Sun Koshi just before we reach camp making the volume of water even larger setting up our next day.

Upon arrival at camp, you will have some to relax and enjoy the surroundings. There are some exciting cliff jumps which you can try or you can even enjoy exploring some of the bat caves or looking for wildlife tracks.

  4. Day 4 Rafting past the Likhu Kola

The river just gets bigger and bigger as more rivers flow into it. We follow the river to just below the confluence of the Likhu Khola. From here we work our way through the ’Anxiety’ series of rapids. These are not to be underestimated and include the pre, post and ’High Anxiety’ rapids. An overall fun day on the river and one to enjoy.

When we reach camp for the evening, there is time for some relaxation, kayaking, football or whatever else you wish to do in your down time. Practice your karaoke as we will no doubt end up having a sing song around the camp fire.

  5. Day 5 Hakapur - Biggest Rapids on the Trip!

The legendary, infamous Hakapur rapid. The biggest rapid you will experience on this trip and one which will make you excited, scared, anxious and wet all at the same time. We gather supplies in a local village just before hitting Hakapur. Our experienced staff will scout the rapid to ensure that it is runnable before we attempt it. If it is – prepare to get soaked! After Hakapur comes the originally named Hakapur II which some people tend to enjoy more than the original Hakapur!

Our camp is at the confluence of the Sun Koshi and Dudh Kodi. The Dudh Kodi is the river which comes from Everest, enjoy some downtime and try to dry off after a wonderful day of rafting.

  6. Day 6 More Rafting!

These last three days rafting can be very exciting. We encounter some serious rapids in the Jaws I, II and III variety and also content with ’Rhino Rock’ and ’Jungle Corridor’. Jungle Corridor can be especially fun as it is 10km of non-stop rapid enjoyment with large waves finished off with the ’Rollacoaster’.

More rapids are also to be contended with over these days. The ’Big Dipper’ and ’Black Hole’ are two large rapids which signal the end of the trip. The Sun Koshi River and scenery starts to change as we get closer to the Indian Plains but have no fear, if more adrenaline is what you seek, then you can find this by jumping from a 30ft bridge into the river below.

The trip comes to an end at Chatra where we will gather our equipment and get on a bus back to Kathmandu. The bus journey can be a whopping 15 hours giving you plenty of time to rest and gather your thoughts on a successful trip.

Accommodation on this Tour

Accommodation – Kathmandu

Kathmandu accommodation is provided in the Thamel district. This is a popular destination for tourists and has home comforts in the sense of restaurants, bars and shops catering to tourists. It also has a wide array of shops where you can buy souvenirs and outdoor gear if you need to pick up anything for the upcoming trip. We spend a night in Kathmandu at the beginning and end of the trip and we believe it should be a comfortable introduction to the country.

Accommodation – Rafting

Rafting presents many challenges and exciting adventures. We will mostly be camping on beaches along the river. Whilst some of these are sandy, do not think that it is like the Costa Del Sol. Most of these beaches are rocky areas with some white sand. It is pretty rural and basic accommodations but we will make it comfortable with areas for cooking and designated toilet areas. Think of it as a fun accommodation which changes and adapts to each and every day of the expedition.

Unfortunately we cannot provide a hot shower every day but you are by the side of the river so if you need to, do what the locals do and enjoy all that the river offers! We provide the basic camping equipment but it is advised for you to bring your own sleeping bag and anything that will make your nights in a tent that bit more comfortable.

It is important to bring footwear that you are comfortable with. Note that most of your things are likely to get wet. Therefore do not go bringing big walking boots to wear all day, there is no need. If you have some waterproof sandals and lightweight footwear they will be able to do the job perfectly.

We would recommend you to put all of your things in dry bags. This will ensure that it stays dry and easily accessible for when you need it. It is also a great way to organize your things and keep everything where you need it. If you need some tips on the best way to pack, just let us know and we will be more than happy to help!

Yes. It is possible to fly back if you don’t fancy the 15 hour bus journey. If this is something that you are interested in, just let us know. We can explain the flight times and schedule for doing this as well as the additional cost. We will need details of your passport to get this arranged but it can be done at a relatively short notice.
