Trek Overview

The Upper Mustang trek takes you to a remote and mystical region of Nepal, often called the "Last Forbidden Kingdom." This unique trek offers an insight into well-preserved Tibetan culture, ancient Buddhist monasteries, and dramatic desert-like landscapes carved by the wind.

Located in the rain shadow of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges, Upper Mustang features a distinct landscape of colorful rock formations, deep canyons, and medieval villages. The trek follows ancient salt trade routes, passing through Lo Manthang, the walled capital of the former Kingdom of Lo, where centuries-old traditions still thrive.

Trek Itinerary

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

Welcome at Tribhuvan International Airport and transfer to your hotel. Evening trek briefing and welcome dinner.

Drive to Pokhara (820m)

Scenic 6-7 hour drive through the Nepalese countryside. Evening free to explore Lakeside.

Fly to Jomsom (2,720m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810m)

Early morning flight with spectacular mountain views. Trek through the Kali Gandaki Valley to the medieval village of Kagbeni.

Trek to Chele (3,050m)

Enter the restricted Upper Mustang region. Trek through dramatic landscapes with views of Nilgiri and Tilicho peaks.

Trek to Syangboche (3,800m)

Challenging day crossing high passes with panoramic views of the Mustang valley and surrounding peaks.
